Wilson looking for more attention

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - One part of the Sunshine State that wasn't well represented at the recent Badger Sports 7-on-7 event held at the University of South Florida was the Panhandle and Big Bend. That is a trend that prospects in the area are hoping to discontinue and the first steps towards assembling a team was taken last weekend with a tryout for a squad consisting of players from the Big Bend and surrounding areas.
One prospect who participated in the event was Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln safety Marcus Wilson. Wilson, who won a state championship with the Trojans in 2010, believes that there is a lot of talent waiting to be uncovered.

"I think that the 7-on-7 is a great way for us to get out and meet new people and see new competition," Wilson said. "I think it is also a great opportunity for players in the Big Bend to come together and show that we have talent up here."
During the recent tryout, the 6-foot, 188-pound athlete competed against his peers, but regularly went back-and-forth with Tallahassee (Fla.) North Florida Christian athlete Travis Blanks. He explained the rivalry that exists between the two of them.
"The thing about Travis is that we grew up together," Wilson said. "We went to middle school together for a while before I transferred, we were always distant friends, but when we are on the field together I know I have to come with it. He is one of those players that we are friends away from the field but when you strap on the cleats, it is all about competition."
For Wilson, the tryout isn't only about making a team but also about trying to get himself a bit more attention from colleges. At this point, he has yet to receive any significant interest.
"Right now, I really haven't," Wilson said. "My main focus right now is on my grades and becoming a man, but as far as schools pursuing me I have yet to hear from schools."
Wilson can also play wide receiver, but believes he ends up on the defensive side of the ball at the next level.
