Williams packing bags

While Concord (Calif.) De la Salle’s running back Maurice Drew (5-9, 190, 4.4) deservingly received a lot of love for his performance in the Cal/Florida there was another running back that played extremely well and deserves his props as well and that is Derrick Williams (photo) (5-11, 205, 4.45) from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.
Williams showed great quickness and power. He didn’t mess around he went through the hole in a hurry and got tough yards. Williams displayed good all-around skills and he was noticed by college coaches.

“I am very open regarding my college choice,” Williams said. “I basically know that I want to stay in the Pac10.”
Williams has already taken one trip to Cal on November 29th and liked it a lot. His next trip will be this weekend to Arizona January 10th, he will follow that trip up with one to Washington January 17th and his scheduled visit will be to UCLA on January 24th.
Williams let Rivals100 West know that he is keeping his last visit open just in case.
“I am still looking at every school in the Pac10 except Stanford and ASU,” Williams said. “I’ve been talking to UCLA a lot more lately. I spoke with UCLA’s new coach (Karl) Dorrell and he told me about new running backs coach Eric Bieniemy.”
“Coach Dorrell also talked to me about the offense UCLA is going to run,” Williams said. “It’s going to be an even balance between run and pass and I like that. The offense is going to resemble the Denver Broncos. He (Dorrell) also told me that the Bruins are going to throw to the backs as well.”
For his senior season, Williams rushed for 1,110 yards and 12 touchdowns while on defense he racked up 42 tackles and had two picks. His versatility is an added boon for his recruitment.
