Williams is a Wildcat

Zach Williams took an unofficial visit to Arizona when the Wildcats hosted UCLA October 14th and behind the scenes, that changed things for Williams.

He took a visit to Indiana over the summer, then an official visit to Purdue earlier this month, but neither compared to Arizona when he compared them to one another.

The 6-foot-3, 210 pound athlete out of John's Creek (Ga.) made his mind up earlier this week and he is ready to go public with his commitment to the Wildcats.

"I have committed to Arizona," said Williams. "I committed to them over Indiana, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Purdue and Georgia Southern."

When Williams was on the Arizona campus over a month ago, that is when he really started to feel the Wildcats.

"It hit me when I was out there on my visit. After I toured the school and met with the coaches, I started to get that feeling. The coaches met with me, they were urging me to be a part of the program and they want me to be the next big factor there."

With his skill set, Williams appeals to some schools as a big wide receiver, while others like him as an athletic tight end. Arizona has recruited him to flex out at the tight end position to create mismatches.

After talking things over with his family, Williams made the decision that Arizona was the right school for him. Family is very important to him and that factored into his commitment.

"I really liked how coach [Rich] Rodriguez stressed the importance of being a family as a football team," said Williams.

This decision was made a few days ago and the Arizona coaches knew first. He let coach Rodriguez, offensive coordinator Calvin McGee and wide receivers coach Theron Aych know of his decision well before he went public with it.

"They were all elated when I told them I was committing to them," Williams said.

As a junior, Williams was made the all-state team and he led tight ends in receiving yards with 979.
