Williams excited to be a Spartan

Four-star Chicago defensive end Raequan Williams announced his commitment to Michigan State a week before Christmas, and could not be more pleased with his decision.
"They showed a lot of interest and my family was on top of me every day about Michigan State being the right place," Williams said. "It was like, I can't go wrong there."

Williams' mother was an integral part of his recruitment and was on the majority of his visits, but was not one of the family members constantly nudging him towards Michigan State.
"She wasn't pushing it hard, but she wanted Michigan State," Williams said. "She wanted it to be my decision."
A few days after Williams made his commitment to Michigan State, it was announced defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi was leaving to take the head coaching job at Pittsburgh. Williams said Narduzzi's departure gave him "a little concern," but did not diminish his excitement about the Spartans.
"He's a great coach and who wouldn't want to play for him?" Williams said. "But, Coach (Harlon) Barnett is pretty good too."
Barnett is expected to be co-defensive coordinator with Mike Tressel going forward. Williams only took two of his official visits, but has no plans to take any more before National Signing Day.
"I am completely done," Williams said. "I am getting more pumped and getting ready to get there, work hard and ready to play. I will play anywhere, I'm just excited to play."
The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Williams is listed as a strongside defensive end, but could also kick inside to defensive tackle in college. He finished his senior season with 74 tackles and eight sacks for DePaul College Prep.
