Will Thorpe take over at QB for Varina

In the wake of four-star athlete Davon Morgan's injury, two players are looking to step up including a potential 2008 star in Justin Thorpe. The 6-foot-0, 188-pounder may take the helm for Richmond (Va.) Varina later this season if he can beat out Donte Boston.
"Donte is our starter at quarterback right now," Varina coach Blanda Wolfe said. "He had never done a snap before, but did the best he could on Monday. He is a great athlete, but turned it over five times in the game."

Meanwhile, Thorpe looks to be next in line to get a shot in the upcoming weeks.
"I know Justin really wanted to get his chance at quarterback and we're going to have to see what he can do," he said. "He has unbelievable potential and hopefully that translates to help lead our team to be successful. I think it's a real possibility he'll play quarterback in the next couple weeks or so.
"I'm hoping he can be a leader for us. I want him to help us win some games, but also do what's best for him in the long run."
As if the situation isn't complicated enough, the 2008 athlete is starting to receive college interest.
"He hasn't gotten a lot yet, but everybody is sending him stuff," he said. "Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Notre Dame and others are in contact. Right now it's way too early to think about that because we have a lot more to worry about, but when it comes down to I think he'll be able to decide wherever he wants to go."
