Will NJ ATH join his father in Big East

Junior To Watch: Lance Melvin
School: Bridgewater (N.J.) Bridgewater-Raritan
Position: Athlete
Size and speed: Lance is 5-foot-9 and a solid 180 pounds. He has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.5-seconds and has a 36-inch vertical jump.
Honors: All-area, all-conference, all-county, second team Group IV all-state
Statistics: As a option quarterback, Lance ran for 669 yards with eight touchdowns. He also passed for 500 yards and five scores and did this all in just seven games. As a cornerback he had 25 solo tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups.
Favorite schools: Rutgers, Virginia, Syracuse, Northwestern, Penn State and Kansas State.
Skinny: Melvin is an excellent athlete who projects as a cover corner or wide receiver in college. Although he doesn’t plan on playing quarterback at the next level, he will once again lead his high school during the upcoming season from under the center.
“Since we’re an option team, my coach plans on playing me at QB again. I like having the ball in my hands and being in control.”
There is a good chance that Lance could follow his dad to Rutgers. His father is the defensive line coach.
“Obviously I like Rutgers a lot and I have an offer from them. I’ll see how things go for me during the recruiting process, but RU is leading the way.”
