The last time we spoke with Fresno (Calif.) Hoover linebacker Mychal Kendricks, it was late June, and the athlete said he was hoping to make an early commitment. As of a few weeks ago, that was still the plan but it looks the decision will now be put on hold for a bit.
Kendricks, 6-0, 210 pounds saw his stock soar after the NIKE Camp in Stanford, where he earned LB MVP honors. The athlete 'backer had a great camp and showed he's easily among the top players at his position in the entire West region.
On the recruiting front, Kendricks has offers from Oregon, Cal, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State and Fresno State. Cal and Oregon were the front runners back in June but a new school has jumped in to the picture.
"I still like Cal and Oregon a lot," Kendricks said. "I also like Arizona now too. They haven't offered me yet but they've been recruiting me pretty hard and I've heard that they like me a lot right now.
"Originally, my plan was to commit on August 29 because that's the day before our first game this year. The problem is, I still don't have that one school that is clearly the one for me and I don't want to rush the commitment right now.
"I really want one of these schools to just blow me away or do something different. They're all recruiting me hard but no one is really rising above the crowd so I'm going to wait before I commit.
"Even if I do commit, I still plan to take my trips so my commitment won't really be official until Signing Day. I want to take my trips during the season so I can see what the school is like on a game weekend. I haven't set my trip dates yet but I'll get to that shortly here."
