Will Cottam follow in brothers footsteps

One of the nation’s best tight end prospects has also been one of the least talked about. Germantown (Tenn.) product Jeff Cottam is racking up scholarships at an impressive pace from some impressive programs.
“I have quite a few offers now,” Cottam said. “North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Maryland, Louisville and Ole Miss have all offered me so far.”

The 6-foot-7, 250-pound Cottam ran an amazing 4.62 second 40-yard dash at the NIKE training camp in Atlanta. He also ran a 4.28 second shuttle, did 19 reps on the bench press and had a 28-inch vertical jump.
“”Right now I would say the four schools that I’m looking at the hardest are Tennessee, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Auburn,” Cottam said. “Auburn and Notre Dame have not offered me, but they are both showing me a lot of interest. I went to camp at Ole Miss and I really liked it there.”
Cottam was a member of Germantown's Class 5A state championship team as a junior. He caught 14 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns. His brother Brad signed with Tennessee in 2003 and the Vols have a good chance to land the younger Cottam as well.
“I’m pretty comfortable with the program there,” Cottam said. “I am going to look around a lot though. My brother is helping Tennessee recruit me, he wants me to go there. He is doing a pretty good job, I’m going to take a visit there.”
Cottam is by no means a lock to be a Tennessee Volunteer and while his brother may be an advantage for the Vols, Jeff has other things he wants to look at as well.
“There is really no time frame on when I will commit,” Cottam said. “Whenever I feel comfortable with my decision or when I find the right one I will announce my decision then.”
