Will Byron Velega Decide Soon

The last time we talked with Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive back Byron Velega, he said he was close to making a decision and may not make his last two visits set up in January. Where are things at now?
Velega took December visits to Cal and UCLA and following his visit to Westwood, said he could commit soon to the Bruins. The talented cover corner told us he still slightly favors UCLA but has now decided to take his last two visits.

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to but now I’m definitely planning to visit Oregon this weekend (Jan. 9) and Washington State the following week (Jan. 16),” Velega said. “Washington State has really jumped up in my eyes after watching them play in the Bowl game. I love how tough and physical their defensive backs are. They really neutralized Roy Williams that game and they play the kind of system I want to play in. They moved up right behind UCLA and Cal and I’m really feeling those guys right now.
“I’m still interested in Oregon too, which is why I’m taking that visit. It’s going to be a tough decision for me. On one hand, I kind of want to commit now and get this over with but on the other hand, I want to check out these last two schools to make sure I’m making the right decision. If USC came in the picture, that’s where I would really want to go. I’m not sure what corners they’re looking at right now but I’ve tried hard all year to get their attention but haven’t been able to get much of a sniff from them.”
