Wildcats extend offer to Wilson

Liberal, Kan., running back Kenny Wilson has picked up his second scholarship offer and more could be on the way.

"Kansas State offered him a scholarship just a couple weeks ago," Liberal coach Rick Anderson said. "They are just the second team to do that. Kansas offered him early on. Now that K-State has offered, I would expect the flood gates to open and more schools following their lead.
"Missouri called at the end of last week. They told us that they would be offering a scholarship to him soon. We'll see how quickly that comes, but I'm sure it will be on the way shortly."
Wilson just recently competed in the Class 5A state track meet and put on a good showing.
"He set a state meet record in the 200-meters over the weekend with a 21.44-second time in the prelims and won the finals with a 21.72. He also brought home the silver in the 100-meters. He capped off his day with a gold in the 4x400-meter relay. The 400 is a distance he never really ran until this year. And he is doing well in that. He just has that build for a sprinter."
Wilson's summer plans are laid out for him already, and his coach will be able to keep an eye on him.
"Kenny is going to be working for me up here at the school. We have a team camp we go to here in a week, as a whole team. Then later this summer we get our week long camp the state allows us to have. Between those two camps and the work up here, he'll stay pretty busy."
Wilson's biggest hurdle to playing Division I football will be his academic work.
"Kenny is confident he will get it. I'm not as sure as he is. But, he can do it, if he works at it hard. If he doesn't get the grades worked out, he will go to either Butler County or Garden City for junior college. But, obviously, we want him to work hard and get it done. He has signed up to take the ACT the first part of June. That will give him an idea of where he stand on that portion of getting eligible. Then he'll have to work on the classroom stuff to keep it up where it needs to be."
