Wilcox a model student-athlete

Seffner (Fla.) Armwood running back Kyle Wilcox is about what you would expect from a fullback on the field.

Hard-nosed, unselfish, and willing to take on all comers, Wilcox has played a huge role in Armwood's success on offense this year blocking for tailback Matt Jones and company or running the football. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder just enjoys doing whatever it takes to win, a feeling he is still getting used to.

"For me coming from my old school, it is so different because I didn't win a single game the entire year in any of the games that I played in," said Wilcox. "But coming here to Armwood and winning all the games that we have played so far, that has been the best feeling for me."

In typical fullback fashion, Wilcox isn't one to make all 11 players on the field miss. What he is though is decisive and has the straight-away speed to be very effective.

"I try to run downhill all the time," explained the Armwood fullback. "I am not that much of a juke guy, but I will make one cut and just go. That is my main thing."

Away from the football field, Wilcox stars in the classroom. Taking nearly all advanced placement courses, Wilcox has near-perfect marks to go along with his efforts on the gridiron.

"I have a 6.14 weighted GPA and a 3.95 un-weighted," Wilcox said. "I have taken a lot of AP classes and stuff. The stuff comes pretty easily to me sometimes. I just have been blessed to be able to pick up stuff quick and I don't have to work at it as much as other kids."

It doesn't come as a surprise that prestigious academic institutions from the Ivy League or the Big-10 are keeping a close watch on Wilcox - an opportunity that he would love to take advantage of.

"I would be really interested in that," he said. "I know that the Ivy Leave schools don't have sports scholarships and they are all academically based so those schools I would have to be able to get academics which I can I think based on when I talk to their coaches. A school like Northwestern which has great sports and academics, that would be great."

Based on the dialogue with the coaches interested in him, Wilcox believes his future at the next level is at tailback.

"Probably at tailback because of my size," Wilcox said. "I play fullback for us, but I am willing to give my body up and just go into those huge linebackers. I'm not sure where they want me to play, but I can play defense too, just wherever they need me."
