Wideout ready for first trip

One of the most sought-after offensive weapons in the talent-rich area of Virginia Beach still likes Tennessee the best. But this weekend Boston College will roll out the red carpet in an attempt to lure him north.
"I like Tennessee, Boston College, Virginia, and Virginia Tech with Tennessee as my favorite," said wide receiver Shannon Lane. "I'm starting my trips and looking forward to comparing the schools."

Lane is a 6-foot-0, 190-pound lightning-fast wideout from Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem who has offers to each of his four favorite schools. He begins a tour of his favorites which will span five weeks this Saturday at BC.
"This weekend I'm going to Boston College for an official visit. They're recruiting me as a defensive back, but I don't have a real preference. Then I'm going to be at Tennessee (Nov. 29), Virginia (Dec. 6), and Virginia Tech (Dec. 13). The Vols remain his strong leader.
"If I really like it at Tennessee I just might commit to them right there," he said. "If not, then I'll take my last two trips and make a decision around Christmas. I don't want to wait much longer than that."
How has Lane fared on the field his senior year?
"Our team has a 7-3 record. I don't know what my stats were last game, but I know I've got 50 catches, close to a 1,000 yards, and five touchdowns."
