Wichita RB catching early interest

Wichita (Kan.) Southeast running back Kouri Washington has begun rehabilitation on his knee after having surgery to clean up the area and his coach already sees a different player.
"Kouri just had knee surgery," retiring Southeast coach Dan Johnson said. "It has been bothering him for a while over the last two years. He finally went ahead and got it taken care of. He's already better. It was two weeks ago and he really looks good already."

The performance on the field last season has helped him attract interest from colleges already. He rushed for 872 yards in 10 games.
"He is getting a lot of letters," Johnson said. "K-State, KU and some of the others around here are sending stuff regularly. Nobody has offered him a scholarship. I think people are trying to figure out where to play him.
"He is a really good football player. He played tailback and linebacker for us. But, he might be big enough to go to fullback next year. He's 5-foot-9 and up to about 220-pounds. The best thing for whoever ends up getting him is that he's a better kid than he is a football player."
Good football ability runs in Washington's family and Johnson believes that helped Washington get his name in front of coaches earlier than some.
"Kouri is Rashad Washington's nephew. Rashad played at K-State and then in the NFL with the Jets. People know that ability runs in families so they are taking a look at Kouri and liking what they see."
