Whos still on the board

Obviously the entire nation is waiting with baited breath on the nation’s top player – Ernie Sims of Tallahassee (Fla.) North Florida Christian. Sims visited Florida State this past weekend and had a good time.

"It went fine, I had fun," Sims said told Warchant.com about his trip. “There wasn’t much new that I haven’t seen before.”

What was new was meeting new Nole linebacker coach Kevin Steele for the first time. Sims said the visit with Steele, who used to be the coach at Baylor, went well. Sims said he was impressed with Steele’s NFL background, too.

Now it’s time for Sims to make a decision. Florida State and UGA have been the front runners in his recruitment for the last month and it’s been an intense battle between Bobby Bowden and his former assistant coach Mark Richt. It looks like it will be Wednesday before we know where the nation’s No. 1 player will end up.

The nation’s No. 3 player – Whitney Lewis of Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure - is down to two teams and will also announce on Wednesday. The question is will he join USC and Pete Carroll and almost all of the other top players in the West, or will he head to Florida State and join his former teammate Lorenzo Booker?

Andre Caldwell of Tampa Jefferson is also still on the board – and will apparently pick between Florida and Florida State with Miami at No. 3 on his list. He said he is expected to sit down tonight or tomorrow and think of a final decision and then announce it on ESPN at 6 p.m. est.

Robert Meachem, the five star receiver from Tulsa Booker T. Washington that is ranked as the nation’s No. 20, is expected to commit to Oklahoma on Wednesday at a news conference at his high school. He also visited LSU, UCLA and Tennessee.

Lexington, S.C., running back Demetris Summers is ranked as the nation’s No. 21 player and has been a South Carolina lean for some time now but Clemson made a late push with him and it’s down to the Palmetto State rivals for the five-star back.

The No. 23 player and No. 3 strongside defensive end Victor Abiamiri has been down to Maryland, Miami and Notre Dame for some time now. Rumors have been floating around lately that Abiamiri will end up at Notre Dame, but this is one impact recruit Maryland hopes doesn’t get outside the state borders.

The recruiting world could know as soon as today what Quinton Culberson of Jackson, Miss., is going to do. The five-star prospect was torn between three SEC schools – LSU, Mississippi and Mississippi State.
