Whittington to be a Mustang

Cuero, Texas all-purpose back Quincy Whittington had received some good news over the phone when SMU coach June Jones had offered him a football scholarship. This past weekend, he returned the favor by committing to play for the Mustangs.
"I committed," Whittington said. "I'll sign on Feb. 6."

The factor that stood out the most for Whittington in his decision was the academics at SMU and all of the opportunities that they offer.
"The education," he said when asked what the deciding factor was. "You just can't get a better school than that. It's one of the top schools in the nation. You can't beat the benefits that come with it, meaning the life and the opportunities you have when you graduate."
Whittington was impressed as well with the campus.
"They showed me around campus in the rooms and in the dorms," he said. "The campus was beautiful the new buildings and all the connections like how the President built the library for his wife and that kind of stuff."
Now that the process is over, Whittington is glad to have everything behind him and he is not wavering in his SMU commitment.
"I was kind of worried at first," he said. "My coach sent a tape off to Tulsa the other day and now they're interested. But I'm sticking with SMU. It was a big relief off my chest and my family. My dad is very proud."
Whittington won't be taking any more visits. His mind is made up and he will be signing with SMU on Feb. 6.
