Whitney verbals to Villanova

Quarterback Chris Whitney out of Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph's Prep has decided to stay at home. The 6-foot-2, 207-pounder committed over the Christmas holiday to Villanova.
"I committed to Villanova as a quarterback on December 22nd," he said. "I picked them because it is close to home. It is a good school with great tradition and a solid football program. I also love the coaching staff. I made a connection with them really quick on my visits."

Whitney will get his chance to compete immediately for the starting job next season.
"I know the quarterback this year is graduating and the kid they are projecting to start is a redshirt sophomore," he said. "I'll have a chance to compete with him and the coaches have told me they'll play the best guy. I'm going to get there early and work hard for the position."
The two-star prospect finished the year leading St. Joseph's Prep to a championship appearance.
"We finished the year losing in that game, but it was still a good season," he said. "I thought I improved this year too particularly on my accuracy. I was much more poised and able to stay in the pocket."
