Aron White's senior season ended with a 9-1 record. Most people would assume the one loss came in the state playoffs. However, because of a tough district, that one loss occurred in the regular season and kept Rock Bridge at home for the postseason.
The good news is that White's season isn't over yet. The 6-foot-4, 216-pound four-star prospect will get one more chance to represent his school in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. White was selected to play tight end for the West squad by Rivals.com, the official selection partner for the game.
"To be 9-1 and lose only one game and not go to the playoffs isn't fair," White said. "The Missouri system should be changed, but I'm happy to have one more chance to go out there and play in high school. I was very much surprised and excited to get the invitation to play in the game. This is an opportunity for me to represent my school one last time, and I plan on going out as a winner."
White should be a great receiving threat for the West squad. With his combination of size and speed, he'll be sure to create matchup problems for defenders.
"My strengths are definitely route running and catching," he said. "My coach, A.J. Ofodile, was one of the best tight ends ever at Missouri. He's taught me how to be a great route runner, make good breaks and how to get open. He's taught me that tight ends aren't just for blocking on the goal line.
"I think I've learned a lot and will be ready to go out there and represent my school. I'm also hoping to show them that Missouri is overlooked as far as talent. I think with all the good players in the state this year, that we can compete with anybody. I can't wait to get down there to Florida with Michael Keck and show them how we do it in Missouri."
White is a longtime Georgia commitment, and he said the decision to become a Bulldog was a relatively easy on.
"I really looked at the track record they have with their tight ends," White said. "They have four or five tight ends in the league now. They've had guys like Leonard Pope and Martrez Milner, and I really like what Martrez does for their offense. He's willing to do a lot of things for them, and I want to pattern my game after his. I just think Georgia has such a great tradition of tight ends that I couldn't pass it up.
"I also felt comfortable with the coaches, and honestly it had the total package with academics, football and environment."
White plans on putting on a show in the game that will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
"Thinking about playing on national TV gets me pumped up," White said. "This is a great opportunity, and I'm proud to be part of it."
