Whaley off and running

Beaumont (Texas) Central 2016 running back Devwah Whaley picked up his first offer from Houston. Then he added Texas Tech, and recently he has seen a flurry of offers with Memphis, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Arizona State.
On Thursday, he welcomed an offer from Ole Miss.

"Oh man, they're a pretty good program," Whaley said. "Every year they have improved. There is a possibility they could be up there in the mix, but right now it's still early. But Ole Miss is a very good school."
The interest has also been there from several other programs. He attended junior days at Texas and Texas A&M. He has seen attention from TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, LSU, and Arkansas.
It is safe to say recruiting is off to a fast start, and so far there are a few relationships which standout to him.
"Texas Tech a lot. I've been talking to coach Curtis and coach Jinks," Whaley said. "That's the only one I've really built a relationship with because I've been talking to them since January. Also Houston because they offered me last summer and coach Blacklock I've been talking to him ever since. I have good relationships with those two."
One of those programs is also showing him more attention than the rest.
"I'd have to say Texas Tech because I can tell they're really trying hardest to get me," Whaley said. "So I feel like they really want me to come play for them and they think I'll be a good fit for their program."
This summer Whaley plans to attend several camps in and around Texas, and he is in no hurry to make a decision or trim his list.
Right now, he is soaking in the experience and collecting information.
"Just right now I'm just trying to enjoy the process," Whaley said. "You know getting to know some of the coaches and building relationships with some of them because I still have two more years. It's good to start early."
Recruiting is off to a crazy start, and Whaley is grateful for it all.
"I'm just thanking God right now," Whaley said. "I'm just blessed. I'm just continuing to work hard and stay focused and stay grounded, but I also want to enjoy the process as well."
