Westphal focusing on a select group

Bolingbrook, Ill., four-star cornerback Parrker Westphal has picked up 20 scholarship offers during his recruitment, but the Rivals250 prospect is focused on about half of those schools at this stage of his process.
"It's probably Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, Michigan State, Illinois, Nebraska, Florida and Michigan and Ohio State," Westphal said.

With nine schools still in the picture, Westphal said a top school has yet to emerge and a decision will not be made until there is a clear-cut choice.
"I have no favorites," Westphal said. "I have been just waiting to see when I feel comfortable making the decision. I don't want to have my decision by rushing it. It could be fall, but we'll see. That's not set in stone."
Even with his recruitment going out into the fall, Westphal said he is not sure that he will take official visits.
"I've visited mostly all of my schools already, so there's not a [need] to do anything additional," Westphal said.
That does not mean that the 6-foot-1, 186-pound defensive back is completely done with visiting colleges. His most recent trip was to Arizona State, and he has a Big Ten school he is looking to visit before the summer is out.
"I probably will visit Michigan State, but I haven't planned anything," Westphal said. "I have been talking to the DB coach, Harlon Barnett, for quite some time. I visited last year in the spring for a spring practice, [but] I haven't really been able to see the campus. I'd like to see their atmosphere, how the coaches coach and I'd just like to see what they have to offer."
Westphal is ranked as the No. 229 overall prospect in the country. He also checks in as the nation's No. 17 cornerback prospect and the No. 8 player in the state of Illinois for the 2014 class.
