West would like to go South

El Dorado (Kan.) Butler County C.C. four-star safety Mike West did his part to help his team win the Jayhawk Conference title against rival Coffeyville this past weekend. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder had 11 tackles and returned an on-side kick back 43 yards for a touchdown.
“There was like 2 minutes left in the game,” West said with a chuckle. “They kicked it to me, and I was like untouched. The ball bounced right up to me, and I ran it all the way back. It was really cool.”

West now is starting to turn his attention to the recruiting wars. With offers on the table from South Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, East Carolina, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, West said he’s starting to think about setting up visits with three schools.
“I’m going to visit Florida State, South Carolina and East Carolina,” West said. “I don’t have any dates yet. They’re all trying to work them around our bowl game. I would put Florida State and South Carolina at the top of my list still. I just really like them.
“But I would like to take all five of my visits.”
West is originally from Florida and wouldn’t mind going back down South to play his college football.
“I’m originally from Florida – Ocala – so it would be nice to play for a big program so close to home,” he said. "I grew up a Gator fan. Dad brought me up watching Florida, but I was always impressed by Florida State, too."
