TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – This weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., there was a Nike Football Training Camp followed by an Elite 11 regional workout held on the University of Alabama practice fields. One competitor that took part in both events was Collierville (Tenn.) Briarcrest Christian quarterback Chris Campbell.
At close to 6-foot-4, and 200 pounds, Campbell has the frame to be a major college quarterback and he enjoyed the Saturday afternoon competition.
"I think I did pretty good," Campbell said of the camp. "I thought I showed some good arm strength and did pretty good overall. I just try to stay cool and stay smooth and look smooth and everything. You get to go against the best of the best in these things and that's what I look forward to."
Campbell holds an early offer from Southern Miss and has been impressed so far with the Golden Eagle program.
"I like it a lot," he said of the offer. "I went down there for the fist time and I was very blown away with it. I love Coach Farrar."
Beyond Southern Miss, Campbell is hearing from several other major programs including Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. He hopes to find out more about several of the schools recruiting him this summer.
"Right now I'm trying to keep my schedule open for the summer but after spring I'm going to sit down and make a schedule. I'd probably like to go to several camps."
When he does hit campuses and listen to coaches, Campbell will be keeping a couple factors in mind.
"I'm looking at the coaching staff and the kind of offense they run and playing time, what they want to do if I get redshirted or whatever."
As a junior, Cmpabell threw for over 1,100 yards to go with over 300 yards rushing.
