Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis had his first huge recruiting weekend at Notre Dame and came away with one of Pennsylvania's top players.
"I committed to Notre Dame on Saturday," said 6-foot-7, 280-pound offensive tackle Michael Turkovich. "Coach Weis is a very agressive recruiter and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to winning. He can back it all up with those Super Bowl rings. Combine that with the great academics of Notre Dame and I was sold."
Turkovich chose the Irish over offers from Boston College, Wisconsin, LSU and many others. Notre Dame came in late, but it didn't matter.
"When Notre Dame comes in, you listen," he said. "Especially with a new coaching staff taking the team in a new direction. I was very impressed with everything and they have what I want when it comes to football and academics."
Turkovich is ranked as the No. 30 offensive tackle in the country. Did anyone else commit on the visit?
"Paul Duncan did too, but I'm not sure who else," he said. "Paul is a good kid and we talked about being bookend tackles for Notre Dame. The whole weekend was great."
