Less than two weeks from National Signing Day, battles for the top uncommitted
prospects are coming down to the wire. Just as important, coaching staffs are
working to make sure they hold on to their current commitments.
So closing the deal during late official visits is key, and there are plenty of
big weekends on tap. Here is a look at some of the top storylines developing
around visit weekends across the country.
Official Visit Weekend Preview:
Jan. 24, 2014

an ambitious next few days for Baylor. In addition to hosting a number of high
profile recruits, the Bears will also conduct their first junior day.
Art Briles'
staff did most of their heavy lifting last weekend, but there's still some loose
ends to tie up, with lone star-standouts Patrick Lawrence,
Jamie Jacobs,
Xavier Jones and Ira Lewis all on campus for officials.

will land one of the Pac-12's three best recruiting classes -- at least, that's
what its coach Sonny Dykes had to say recently. And while those expectations may
be a bit lofty, the Golden Bears are performing better than one might expect
from a 1-11 team. At least 10 players travel to Berkeley this weekend, six of
whom are pledged elsewhere. Texas wide receiver-commit Garrett Gray,
Florida
State-verbal Jonathan Vickers and Louisville-pledge De'Eric Culver are among
the most notable.

slated to visit Ole Miss, high four-star Andrew Williams will visit Clemson,
instead. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound pass rusher had a terrific visit to Auburn last
weekend but the shift in Williams' schedule has given Clemson reason for
optimism. In-staters C.J. Fuller and Jalen Williams will also visit.

to Ole Miss for locking down its homegrown talent. The state's top three players
-- Rod Taylor, C.J. Hampton and D.K. Buford -- will all take their talents to
Oxford come fall, and two of the three -- Taylor and Buford -- will trip to campus
on Friday. Four-star linebacker
Demarquis Gates will join them.

Ducks haven't put together the caliber of class we're accustomed to, but a
strong weekend from the coaching staff would have the folks up in Eugene resting
easier. Former Boise State commit Khalil Oliver should wind-up
wearing the quack-attack's trademark neon, and 300-pound defensive lineman Trey Lealaimatafao
is thought to be an Oregon-lean, but landing speedy wide receiver Charles Nelson
won't be easy.
MICHIGAN STATE: SpartanMag.com |

off its first Rose Bowl victory in nearly a quarter century, Michigan State
stands to profit from at least a dozen official visits this weekend. Most have
already committed to the Spartans but two -- Malik McDowell and
Daniel Cage
-- would provide the boost needed for MSU to leapfrog the Wolverines in Rivals'
team rankings. A recent in-home from
Mark Dantonio has the Spartans feeling
optimistic.
TENNESSEE: VolQuest.com |

Click Here to view this Link. It's a good weekend for Vols commits
Vic Wharton and
Rashaan Gaulden to visit Knoxville. Both have lobbied hard to lure other high profile recruits to Tennessee. Suspected
LSU-lean Darrel Williams won't be swayed easily, and Wisconsin-pledge
Craig Evans may be even more stubborn. Already No. 3 in our team rankings,
Butch Jones and Tennessee would like nothing more than to finish with a bang.
TEXAS CHRISTIAN: PurpleMenace.com |

Click Here to view this Link. It's
been an interesting couple weeks for TCU. After missing on several prospects,
Horned Frogs' coach
Gary Patterson swiped a recruit apiece from
underlings Texas State and UTSA. That'll help, but Patterson
also needs players who can contribute right away. Weekend visitor and
Longhorns-commit Lorenzo Joe would be a major coup.

team is more desperate for good news these days than the Commodores -- cue
Rashad Canty and
Dallas Rivers. Both are solidly in the Commodores' camp
and the latter has been outspoken about doing his part to shore-up those on the
fence. Expect potential blocker
Bailey Granier to be among those Rivers
pitches hardest over the weekend. Four-star California-commit Koa Farmer will also be on campus, though all signs point to him sticking with
the Golden Bears.

smarting over Joe Mixon's decision to go with Oklahoma, the
Badgers are flirting with disappointment again. UW
still has yet to lock-up a single cornerback, and the 2014 pool is shrinking
rapidly. Three-star recruit and Rutgers-pledge Andre Boggs
delivered welcome news on Tuesday when he announced plans to visit Madison over
the weekend but has maintained he's still a Scarlet Knight.
