Week Seven: Lawrence vs. Fields

The top two prospects in the country have been impressive the first half of the season. Trevor Lawrence has played six games and Justin Fields has played five. One threw for over 300 yards again this weekend, while the other got in the news because of a a recruiting development.

It was another week, another win and another five-star performance for Lawrence.

It is like hitting repeat week after week when talking about the No. 1 prospect in the country. Lawrence threw for 300-plus yards, his team won big and he didn’t play the whole game. That was what happened again in game six against Central Carroll in the 55-6 victory.

Lawrence finished the night 16-of-23 for 308 yards and five touchdown passes. He added 22 yards rushing. He was a perfect 6-of-6 in the second half before exiting the game late in the third quarter. His longest completion of the night was 64 yards, which went for a touchdown.

After six games, Cartersville looks poised to make a run at their third straight state title this season. Lawrence has looked like the top prospect in America. He has won 36 straight games as a starter and after six games, he is 89-126 (70.6 percent) for 1,830 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Clemson commit has added a couple of rushing touchdowns.

Fields had his second bye week this season, and like the first one, he stayed in the news due to recruiting. The No. 2 prospect in the country showed up in Baton Rouge for an official visit to LSU when he was off early in September and this time, he showed up in Tuscaloosa to visit the Crimson Tide.

This trip follows back-to-back visits to Georgia to see the Bulldogs play. The in-state school has the momentum right now, but will the visit to Alabama change that? Check out BamaInsider.com for the latest.

Fields will return to action Friday against Sprayberry, but after five games, he has done nothing but perform like the elite quarterback that he is.

At the midway point, Fields has completed 58-96 (60.4 percent) of his passes for 974 yards. He has thrown 12 touchdown passes to just one interception. He has rushed for 575 yards on 76 carries and scored 10 touchdowns on the ground. That is an average of 7.6 yards a carry.

There is nothing either of these prospects could be doing much better to this point in the season. Each has played at a high level.
