Wedderburn takes unofficial to PSU

Springfield (Pa.) Cardinal O'Hara tight end Mark Wedderburn took an unofficial visit to State College this weekend. The 6-foot-6, 235-pounder was in attendance for the Nittany Lions contest against Notre Dame.
"The visit was amazing," he said. "I've never experienced anything like that before. They had 110,000 fans there, it was the second most ever and it was ridiculous. I just felt a great vibe about them and its one big happy family. The whole white out thing was a great experience.

"It was different this time around because of the camaraderie. All the fans were dedicated. People were tailgating eight hours before the game started. I can't even explain it."
What did the three-star prospect do on the unofficial?
"I went up there with my quarterback and linebacker," he said. "I went out for the pregame and got to get a feel for the environment on the sideline. Then I went to my seat and watched the game.
"Everything stood out about that game; I can't just say one thing. I actually got to talk to the coaches after and they said they might switch me to wide receiver. Either way, they said I'll get the ball regardless. All the coaches were happy to see me."
It was believed Penn State led for Wedderburn before the visit. Is he closer to committing there?
"This experience really helped them a whole lot," he said. "It was weird because I felt at home. It was a real great experience. I'll see other schools, but I don't know if others can match Penn State.
"I was thinking about a decision at one point on the visit. I thought though that I want to see other schools first before I make a decision. It was hard not to commit."
Wedderburn is looking at a couple other schools to visit for unofficials in the near future including West Virginia, Louisville and Tennessee.
The No. 21 tight end in the country has helped his team to a 1-1 start so far this year.
"It's going good," he said. "We won our first game and lost our second. I think our team is really good. I think we can win a championship this year. We have so many weapons and nobody can touch us in our league.
"I didn't play too well the first game, but in the second I had four catches for 60-yards and a safety. I still want to work on my blocking this season and get my concentration to be even better."
