Webb lands LSU offer

Detroit Cass Tech class of 2014 athlete Damon Webb has been on a roll this summer, landing offers from several big-name programs to kick off his process. He continued that momentum on Tuesday by landing his first SEC offer.
Webb has been in Baton Rouge, La., the past three days working out at LSU's summer camp. Tuesday morning he had a meeting with head coach Les Miles where he learned the Tigers were offering him a scholarship.

"We sat down with him and he basically was telling me what LSU has to offer me and that he really wants me to come there," Webb said. "It felt real good and I feel blessed."
Several connections to LSU and Baton Rouge brought Webb down to Louisiana for the Tigers' camp this week.
"I was real excited and I knew there was going to be a lot of competition out there," Webb said. "I just wanted to see how I was going to compete with the boys from that area."
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect's performance at the camp was good enough to earn him an offer from LSU, a school he has watched closely since his youth.
"I always liked LSU growing up because my mom is from down here and her family lives 20 minutes away," Webb said. "Every time I came down here they always had LSU stuff."
This week's trip to LSU gave Webb the opportunity to look more in-depth at the campus and get a feel for the Tiger's coaching staff.
"They showed me the whole campus and I really enjoyed it," Webb said. "The defensive backs coach, Corey Raymond, is a real good coach and I learned a lot from him this weekend. Coach Les Miles talked to me a lot and I really like Coach Miles."
Webb has the ability to play wide receiver or cornerback in college, but LSU is recruiting for the defensive side of the football and that is the position he expects to play at the next level.
The offer from LSU joins previous offers from the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, West Virginia and Wisconsin, and a decision is still a ways off in the future.
"I'm not going to make a decision right now," Webb said. "I am going to wait until after the season."
Next up for Webb is a trip to Michigan for the Wolverines' BBQ event later this month. He does not expect to attend any more camps this summer, but is already looking at a return to LSU next year.
"I know I am coming back to the camp next summer," Webb said.
