Weaver checks out USC

Evan Weaver had a prior relationship with USC assistant coach Justin Wilcox dating back to his days on the Washington staff, but the three-star prospect's trip to Los Angeles for the Trojans' Elite Junior Day on Saturday served as a reintroduction of sorts.
The defensive end holds scholarship offers from Boise State and Washington State, and his interest from the Trojans could be indicative of what's to come for the 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect from Spokane (Wash.) Gonzaga Prep.

"USC was awesome," Weaver said. "The city was nice. I was surprised with how nice the campus was. The coaches were great. I got to talk to coach Wilcox again, and also spent some time with coach (Peter) Sirmon and (Chris) Wilson. The facilities there are great."
Weaver has also been hearing from the likes of Arizona State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Notre Dame, and intends to camp with several schools this summer.
"The USC coaches want to see me come back for the Rising Stars Camp and try out," Weaver said. "They like me at defensive end and outside linebacker. I really like the tradition they have there and how you compete for everything. Your position is never safe and that brings the competitor out of you."
Weaver said he would stay closer to home next weekend and visit Washington for its own junior day event. The Washington coaches seem to covet Weaver for his competitiveness and motor, he said.
Weaver also plans to check out the two schools that have offered him.
"Washington State has been building its program from scratch the last few years and upgrading their facilities," Weaver said. "They are on the rise. With Boise State, they have young coaches but have shown they can compete at the highest level. They know what they're doing there and that's appealing."
