Washington QB on the road

Lakewood (Wash.) Lakes quarterback Calvin Schmidtke has been a busy man so far this summer. He just got back from Arizona for the Wildcats' summer camp, and it doesn't look like it'll be his only stop.
"I was just at the Arizona camp," he said.

"It was pretty good. I flew down there on Saturday morning and hung out with the quarterback coach. He was telling me about the offense, and how he wants to throw the ball like 50 times a day. There were a lot of players out there and coach told me I was the best quarterback there.
But at this point, the Wildcats have yet to offer him a scholarship. He does have one offer from Idaho State.
"Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, Boise State and Arizona are my top five," Schmidtke, who is 6-foot and 179 pounds, said. "The schools I just named are the ones I'll probably go visit this summer. I don't know if I'll make it out to Hawaii, but Boise State, Colorado and Washington I will definitely go to."
So what will he be looking for in the perfect school?
"Good coaches is key," he said. "I want to major in business so academics would be an issue. I want to get away from home to some nice weather because I don't like the rain."
Schmidtke is working hard to get better and get geared up for the 2007 season.
"I'm working on improving my leadership skills," he said. "I don't want people to doubt me for my size. I'm really excited about this year. We've got a really talented team. We'll probably have like eight guys go play college football. So I wouldn't be happy with anything less than a state championship."
