Washington option intrigues Florida LB Deandre Fitz-Henley

The Latest: Class of 2018 Florida linebacker Deandre Fitz-Henley has seen his recruitment pick up in recent months, with several programs joining his offer list. The most notable to date is Washington, the reigning Pac-12 champions. While the Huskies don’t normally recruit the Southeast that heavily, it’s clear they already have Fitz-Henley’s attention. Rivals.com caught up with Fitz-Henley at the recent Orlando stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp presented by adidas to get the latest on his recruitment.

In His Words: “Washington was an offer I was excited to pick up. I’m just an athletic linebacker and I can play all three of the linebacker positions, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m still going to make plays wherever I am on the field and I think that’s what they like about me. I think I would fit well out there.”

On familiarity with the program: “I don’t know that much about them but I want to take an official visit there for sure. I got to see them play against Alabama in the Playoff, they should have won that game. It was a good game. Because it’s so far I have to wait to take an official. I’m not sure about the distance, I think about staying close to home but you never know what’s going to happen.”

On which school might offer next: “UCF. The coaches have been talking to me a lot, getting to know me. That’s an offer I’d like to get.”

Rivals Reaction: The Huskies success in 2016 on the field has opened new doors in recruiting as the calendar has turned to 2017. It’s going to be a tough proposition to pull Fitz-Henley all the way from Florida, but if he does indeed take an official visit it will be a good sign for the school’s national recruiting efforts.
