OKLAHOMA CITY -- There's not a thing wrong with being the best-dressed man in the room.
It may have been the first time a black bowtie and an Under Armour All-American jersey have been paired, but as Josh Wariboko pulled the uniform over his formal attire, he officially accomplished an important goal. It only felt right that he was dressed for the occasion.
A senior at Oklahoma City's Casady School, Wariboko was surrounded by his family and classmates during the short jersey-presentation ceremony that took place in the athletic complex of his high school. There was applause and some short words from his coach. And, just like that, the four-star prospect from Oklahoma's largest city wads an All-American.
"I knew I wanted to pick Under Armour out of all the All-American games just from watching the game on T.V. and seeing the types of players and publicity it got," Wariboko said.
The uncommitted Wariboko has narrowed his list to include just eight schools and, on Tuesday, said that UCLA, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would move through to his final five. The revelation was news, but the afternoon wasn't about his recruitment. This was about a reward for a decorated high school career and it was treated as such.
"It's just an honor," Wariboko said. "Getting invited to both games was an honor, actually. Army was my first invitation and I considered that one a lot, but I knew I wanted to go to Under Armour when that invitation came."
His reaction was cliché. Nobody is going to disparage an All-American game, after all. The excitement on Wariboko's face, however, was unmistakable. This wasn't just an invitation to a game. To Wariboko, who has gotten to know many of the top players in America by being a mainstay on the national camp circuit for years, it was the invitation to a reunion of sorts.
"I know (five-star) Drew Richmond. I met him down at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge. And then my cousin, (four-star) Soso Jamabo is also in the game. I know some other guys, too. But those two for sure. Those are the guys I'm closest with. We're going to have a real good time down there for sure."
Wariboko is the No. 77 ranked prospect in the 2015 class and the No. five offensive guard in the country.
