"It was different experience," Ward said in the LaMarque lunchroom.
"I got to know some new people and they treated my like family. I was happy to get on the field over there. But I'm really happy to be with my guys."
He re-enrolled to LaMarque last Friday, which was a surprise to coach Bryan Erwin. Another surpise is the commitment he made in his school's lunchroom on Tuesday.
"I'm going to Florida State," he said. "As far as Alabama, it didn't work out with them."
Ward committed to Alabama in December, and is scheduled to visit Florida State this weekend with former teammates Russell Ball and Korey Mangum of LaMarque.
Ball is a verbal commit to the Seminoles while Mangum de-committed to Texas A&M and has visited Houston and TCU over the past two weeks.
Ward said it just felt right for him to become a Seminole now, compared to later after he takes his official visit there this weekend.
"The timing is right," Ward said. "I can't even begin to explain how excited I am about the decision. It's the right move. It's the right place for me. I'm excited and proud to be going with my boys over there to FSU."
