Walker puts recruiting aside

Waco, Texas cornerback Marcus Walker has thrown the recruiting process to the back burner so he can focus on his senior season of football.
“Everything is going good right now,” the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Walker said. “Not much has changed. I haven’t narrowed anything down at all.”

Walker has put his efforts into preparing for the 2003 season.
“We have been practicing,” No. 4 rated cornerback said. “We have a chance to be a good team this fall. So we have all focused our efforts on the field and trying not to let anything get in the way. We had a scrimmage Saturday. We just need to work out a few kinks here and there and we’ll be alright.”
Despite throwing recruiting onto the back of his mind, Walker still has several schools he is keeping an eye on. Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Florida State, LSU, Arkansas, Notre Dame and Nebraska remain at the top of the list.
“I’m wanting to find a place I can play,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if the school is near home or not. I want to take all five of my visits before deciding and I will probably wait until our season is over to take any of them.”
Walker has watched where other top prospects have chosen, and would enjoy playing with some of them if it worked out.
“I know Rhett Bomar went to Oklahoma,” Walker said. “I know Adrian Peterson is looking at OU and Texas among some others. It’d be good to play with players like that. But everyone needs to make their own decision. You can’t pick a place because someone else is there. You have to feel comfortable with the pick and find the right reasons for going there.”
