Walker: 'Georgia may be coming harder than ever before'
In between throwing down monster dunks and grabbing over a dozen boards and swatting away four shots a game on the hard court, Travon Walker is going through the recruiting process as one of the top football prospects in America.
He receives text messages every day from coaches on numerous coaching staff, he has seen a coach or two at his basketball games on a regular basis the last three weeks and every coach wants his attention daily.
The No. 39 prospect in the country had an open Saturday recently and the Thomaston (Ga.) Upson Lee defensive end visited Athens.
Walker didn't really feel like he left his house.
"For me, being back at Georgia was like being back at home again," said Walker. "Athens is not too big and it is not too home, so to me, it just feels like home. It reminds me of my hometown."
Kirby Smart and his staff are doing all they can to convince Walker the Classic City is his future home.
"Their message to me is clear — that I am a major priority for them. They are not pressuring me to commit, but they tell me they want me to be a Bulldog. They talked to me about coming in, making a major impact and helping Georgia continue to strive towards that National Championship.
"Coach [Tray] Scott is always on me and coach Smart has been on me super-hard lately. Coach Scott has been to two or three basketball games, coach Smart was there last week, they are both always in contact with me and they have always recruited me hard, but Georgia may be coming harder than ever before."
Georgia has solidified itself as one of Walker's favorites and the in-state school likely to be right in this race until the end. Alabama has faded a little and Michigan has come on, but for now, Walker's top four is still Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina.
Commitment is something he has thought about, but he is not ready — yet.
"I still don't know when I will commit," said Walker. "I honestly hope it is not that much longer. I am not going to commit until I am ready though.
"It is up in the air, but when I know I am 100-percent, I will make my decision."
Walker does not have any other visits scheduled at this time. He is too busy playing hoops where his school has won 56 consecutive games.
