Wake snags one from Georgia

A good education and the chance to play in the ACC was too much to pass up for McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing athlete Marcus Williams.
The 5-foot-9, 172-pounder committed to Wake Forest on Friday. He chose the Demon Deacons ahead of South Florida and Central Florida.

"It was education, football and my family," Williams said. "My mother liked the education that Wake Forest will provide. The football program also is up and coming."
Williams will make his official visit to Winston-Salem the weekend of Jan. 6. He cancelled a previously scheduled visit to Southern Miss this weekend.
Defensive coordinator Dean Hood and running backs coach Billy Mitchell are the recruiters of record for Williams. The pair made an in-home visit that made a serious impact on Williams' decision.
"They told me and my parents that they couldn't offer me playing time," Williams said. "But what they could offer me was a great education. They have a 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and that is real important to me."
Williams, who played quarterback for his high school team, accounted for 48 percent of his high school team's offense the past four seasons with 7,168 total yards. He is being brought to Winston-Salem as a running back, but will move to the secondary is things don't work out at that position.
"They already have taken two corners," he said.
