Wake Forest on the mind of 2018 3-star Ga. DE Abi Okonji

The Latest: There was plenty of debates over the merits of satellite camps during the offseason but one player who definitely benefited from the additional exposure was Class of 2018 three-star defensive end Abi Okonji. After camping in front of several programs, Akonji added offers from the likes of Michigan State, Boston College and Wake Forest, among others. Since that time Okonji said the Demon Deacons have done the best job of keeping in touch, so much so that he's hoping to visit campus for a game this fall. Rivals.com caught up with him to get the latest on his recruitment.

In His Words: "I’ve been in touch with Wake Forest and I’m trying to get a visit set up for a game this fall. I was at a satellite camp this summer and they had a coach there to see me and they were impressed enough to offer me. I talked to the coaches afterwards on the phone and we have been keeping in touch since. I've been talking with defensive line coach Dave Cohen. They really like my tape and they’ve been the school that’s really been keeping in touch with me the most. I want to get up there for a visit and see a game but if I can’t I’ll make a trip after the season. Me and my dad are still working on my travel schedule but I’m really focused on having a good season for my high school team."

Rivals Reaction: In order to become a satellite camp success story, Okonji will need to continue his strong start to his junior season and continue to stay on the radar of the schools on his offer list. It's clear Wake Forest is making quite the effort to recruit the Atlanta area and getting in early with a guy like Okonji is a good place to start. Getting him on campus for a visit will be the next step in the process for the school.
