Wake commit pushes through injuries

Brandon Ghee has been a defensive standout for Fayetteville (N.C.) Jack Britt High when he’s been able to play. Unfortunately, the Wake Forest commit has spent much of his season on the sidelines.
“I just started playing this week after missing five weeks with a ripped groin,” Ghee said. “I’m 100 percent now, and I’m excited to get back.”

Ghee said that his pledge to Wake Forest is as strong today as when he made it.
“I’m just talking to Wake Forest, and Coach Grobe (Head coach Jim) is a real nice guy,” he said. “I’ll probably never change my commitment, and I’ve been to all the home games except for two. I just love the school, and it’s a great family atmosphere and a great education. I can come out with a great degree there, and I’ve loved it since the ninth grade. I’m a long-time fan.”
His past support may have been a factor in Ghee’s decision, but he said that there were some other strong factors, including family, that played a role as well.
“They’re an uprising team, and they had the biggest attendance in their history at the UNC game,” Ghee said. “I think they’ll be real good next year. My brother is a redshirt sophomore there, and he plays strong safety now. But I told him not to show up when I was looking at the school so I could look at it more fairly. It was a load off to get the whole thing out of the way.”
With his decision out of the way and his health returning, Ghee said that he’s hoping to get into the swing of the playoffs.
“My season was going good outside of the injury,” he said. “I have three interceptions, and I’m ready to help out my team. I’m a cover corner, and I like to play man-to-man and play with coverage. I try to play like a power corner and I watch film on opponents to try to get an edge. I’m more physical now that I was last year.”
Ghee is a three-star cornerback and is ranked among the top 30 in the country at his position. He was also recently selected to play in the North Carolina Shrine Bowl.
