Waco OL high on the Horns

When reviewing film of the top players in the state of Texas, not much was originally known about Waco (Texas) University massive offensive lineman Ryan Young. However, by the time Rivals100 was finished with the evaluation, it was clear that he has the talent to be one of the top 30 players in the state of Texas.
So it’s no surprise that three of the top teams that recruit Texas are after the massive 6-foot-7, 303-pound offensive tackle.

“I think the three most interested teams are Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma,” Young said. “Texas Tech and A&M have been over to spring practices and watched me work out. But Texas, A&M and OU send me hand-written letters all the time.”
When those teams watched Young work out, they saw a big kid that’s definitely one of the stronger players in the state but also an improving one.
“I’ve always been able to dominate people right in front of me,” he said. “I’m just usually stronger or bigger than the other guy, so that makes it easy for me to block them. But I really want to work hard on getting up to the next level and going out there and getting after the cornerbacks.
“You know the little guys. I want to be able to get up to that level and squish them. So I’ve really been working hard on my quickness. I’ve really been working hard on getting quicker and faster.”
Young knows that he’s not a finished product, but there is already more than enough talent there to call him an elite prospect for this recruiting class. So why doesn’t he have any scholarship offers yet?
“I think it’s mainly because I’ve only been playing on the varsity for a year,” Young said. “I think some of the coaches are waiting to see what I look like here in the spring practices. I think I’m showing them that I’m good enough. I never really dreamed that I would be a college player, but when I got to the ninth grade I told myself that I’m going to make it happen.”
Now the question is where he’s going to make it happen at.
“I admit that I’m a big Texas fan,” Young said. “I would probably jump on an offer from Texas. They’re sending me a lot of hand-written letters and they want me to come to camp and they said they’d probably offer me then.”
But then another side of Young admits that if other teams recruit him heavily that he might not have such an easy decision.
“Say if A&M or an Oklahoma offers me, then it could get interesting,” he said.
“I don’t want to rush into things, and I want to take my time. I guess we’ll just see how things go. I really think A&M and Oklahoma are good schools, too. They play big-time football there.”
