VTO Sports event a chance to build profile

VTO Sports is set to host its final two underclassmen events of the summer, and a sizable collection of talent from the 2015, 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes will be on two different fields this weekend working hard to gain a possible invitation to the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge presented by Under Armour.

The first VTO Sports Underclassmen event will take place Saturday at 8 a.m. at York Comprehensive High School in York, S.C.

Prospects from all around the Southeast, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, will be tested in the 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical jump and bench press, as well as participation in agility drills.

There are several names on the registration list to keep an eye on, but perhaps none more than Concord (N.C.) Robinson 2015 athlete Carl Tucker Jr.. The 6-foot-1, 206-pounder is already firmly on the recruiting radar, having drawn an early verbal offer from Clemson as well as interest from Duke, East Carolina, North Carolina and South Carolina.

A pair of prospects from the Palmetto State who will participate on Saturday have fathers who are former college players. 2016 WR Chris Smith (Rock Hill, S.C./South Pointe) is the son of former Arkansas defensive back Pat Burris, and former South Carolina signal-caller Blake Williamson's son is Anderson (S.C.) T.L Hanna 2017 quarterback Jackson Williamson.

Santee (S.C.) Lake Marion defensive back James Valdez, from the 2016 class, had solid camp performances this month at Clemson and South Carolina and will look to further enhance his stock with some excellent testing times.

Goose Creek's Deandre Daniels is in a position to see more playing time for the perennially strong Gators this season and will look to show off some of the track speed that has made him one of the better 200- and 400-meter runners in the state.

Greenwood (S.C.) WR Markeyvious Adams, nicknamed "Mock," is the type of big receiver who has frequently found success at the college level. Eagles head coach Gene Cathcart believes Adams definitely has the ability to be a BCS football signee (along with standout DB Kaleb Chalmers, who already has offers) and his film speaks for itself. On Saturday, he will look to put up strong testing numbers to raise his profile.

The final underclassmen event will take place the following day, at 7:45 a.m. at Highland Springs High in Highland Springs, Va.

2016 athlete Quinton Baker hails from the aptly-named Blazer High in Kentucky, because the 5-foot-8, 177-pounder has some serious speed. During his freshman year, he was named all-area in track and football. He posted a 10.98 second 100-meter dash time and a 22.55 in the 200 and can run in the 4.5-second range in the 40-yard dash.

Suffolk (Va.) Lakeland linebacker Jaquan Yulee has excellent size at 6-foot-1, 239 pounds. Virginia and Virginia Tech have already extended verbal offers, along with Morgan State, Old Dominion and North Carolina. Yulee, who also plays fullback on offense for his high school team, will be one of the headliners of the event.

Another in-state underclassman with offers who will be in attendance is Ocean Lakes High's Quincy Watts. The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder has already drawn verbals from Virginia and Old Dominion.

Olney (Md.) Good Counsel 2016 running back Jonathan Lee will be on hand for the event; in addition to coming out of a program that annually produces Division I talent, Lee has a strong highlight reel of his own as just a freshman.

We will also be keeping a close eye on Fredricksburg (Va.) Chancellor two-way 2015 lineman Pete Seftas, Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale 2016 LB Sammy Stark, and Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes 2015 athlete Tramayne Griffin.

The second annual Rivals Underclassmen Challenge presented by Under Armour will take place on July 7 in DeSoto, Texas.
