Absecon (N.J.) Holy Spirit athlete Zach Luckett took his first official visit of the season last weekend when he made a trip to Blacksburg and Virginia Tech. What did the 6-foot-3, 193-pounder think of the Hokies?
"I had a great time and the atmosphere was tremendous," he said. "They were my number one choice going in and they moved up to a better number one now. The whole town is welcoming and the players and coaches treat you really good. I felt comfortable in a family type environment and enjoyed it.
"I was hosted on the trip by Jahre Cheeseman and it was great, it was like we knew each other for a long time and he made me really comfortable. If I go there we'll be close friends the next four years. On my visit, I went out to dinner with Jahre and some of the other guys. During the day I went all over campus and then saw the game and Saturday night I went out with coach Rogers and had a nice time. Later that night I went out with some of the players."
What did the No. 21 athlete in the country think about Virginia Tech's game against Ohio?
"The game was tremendous, even though it wasn't a big game," he said. "The crowd was into it and had a good time. They really support their team and it's loud. It's something I'd like to play in and it's comfortable playing in front of a crowd that loves you. I took notice of the wide receivers out there and they are good and young. If I come in, I can learn from them and they'll help me as I grow up to be better."
Overall Luckett gave the visit a 9.5.
"It was just a great trip for me and it was more than I expected," he said. "I've been told great stories about how great of a place Virginia Tech is and it was all true and more than what I expected. I didn't think about committing because we're going to make our decision in early December."
The three-star prospect has set up a second official visit.
