VT grabs four-star DE Fullwood

What a quick turn of events it has been for four-star defensive end Darius Fullwood. The Olney (Md.) Good Counsel stand out visited Virginia Tech over the weekend, decommitted from Kentucky on Tuesday and committed to the Hokies on Wednesday.

"After I made my commitment back in June I've been talking with my family," said the 6-foot-3, 240-pound Fullwood. "I just think that staying closer to home is a bigger factor than I thought it would be. Being able to have my family and friends be able to come out there and see my play is kind of important. It came down to that for the most part."
"I made a lot of good relationships with a lot of good coaches throughout the process and I feel like I have better relationships with other defensive line coaches," he said. "I'm not saying I had a bad relationship with the defensive line coach at Kentucky but I've been in contact with some coaches more than others. That made a big impact."
Fullwood cited relationships with friends and coaches as some of the main reasons for his decision.
"Just like at Kentucky, I have people that I know at Virginia Tech," said Fullwood. "I have Melvin Keihn, Kendall Fuller, C.J. Carroll and a whole bunch of other people. I feel like it was the right choice for me. They were one of the first schools to start recruiting me. They're a defensive-minded school. You've got one of the best defensive coordinators that calls tremendous plays and puts his players in the right situation to make plays. That's something I definitely like. Just watching the Ohio State game, I can tell they're going to go higher than they already are right now."
Fullwood added that he has not yet talked to Jabari Greenwood. The two committed to Kentucky at the same time in late June.
