Vols still chasing Vandy DT commit

August 1 was the first day schools could official send out offer letters to recruits and when three-star Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth and Vanderbilt defensive tackle commit Michael Sawyers checked his mail over the weekend, he had a surprise letter from the Commodores rival.
"I got the offer official offer letter [from Tennessee] but I'm done," Sawyers said. "I'm happy being with Coach Franklin and Coach Gattis at Vanderbilt."

Sawyers was thought to be one of the Vols primary targets and surprised many by committed to Vanderbilt last month. He said he's had no regrets since making his decision.
"I was getting tired of the recruiting process and I really wanted to focus on my team," he said. "My whole family loved Vanderbilt and I want to be able to see my [two younger ] sisters whenever I need to so I decided to pick Vandy."
Sawyers said since committing his bond with the Vanderbilt coaches has grown even stronger.
"Coach Franklin and I are really close," Sawyers said. "We had a meeting - pretty much a heart-to-heard - and I learned a lot about him. I feel he's definitely staying there."
Sawyers is now helping Franklin and the rest of the Vanderbilt staff work on other recruits and said he will continue to do so moving forward. His next visit to campus is set for this weekend.
