Vols stand out for Walton

Indian Head (Md.) Lackey lineman J.B. Walton has received more interest as the evaluation period has progressed.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pounder had visits from Connecticut, Tennessee, Nebraska, Florida State and Penn State already, just to name a few.

"Tennessee stood out because they told me about their good academic center and how they have tutors. My mom stresses academics a lot, so that was good," he said. "The rest of the schools just told me they like me a lot."
The Rivals 100 prospect looks like he'll be waiting until after the season to make a decision.
"I just want to wait until after the season, instead of during the season," he said. "I want to wait until school is done and talk to all of the schools and go from there. I'll probably commit closer to Signing Day."
Walton hopes to be even more of a leader during his senior year at Lackey.
"I'm starting to run a lot more. I'm getting my wind back, working a lot of drills and building my strength in hopes for the best next year," he said. "I'm hoping for the team to do what we did last year and go to the state title and win it. I'd like to accomplish everything like I did my junior year. I want to work harder and be a leader on and off the field."
This summer Walton is looking at heading to the Penn State camp along with a couple in the Maryland region.
Other schools that have peaked the guard's interest include Maryland, LSU, Georgia, Nebraska, Ohio State and Oklahoma. While Walton was at one time leaning towards his home-state Terps, he's wide open now.
"I like Maryland, but I want to look around and see if leaving the state is something I'd like to do," he said. "I'll only have this chance once."
Walton was named all-conference and all-state last year as a junior.
