ARLINGTON, Tex. – 2020 Rivals100 prospect EJ Smith was one of the closest-watched prospects at last Saturday’s Prime 21 event in a bit of a contrast to what’s gone on to this point in his recruitment.

Smith was hesitant to discuss which specific teams have been making the most positive moves with him this point, and chose to take the diplomatic route when it came to naming early leaders with him.

“I don’t really want to say that,” he said. “I’ve been talking to everybody, really. All of the schools that I’ve been offered by I have some good relationships with and that’s been fine, really.”

One thing Smith can’t duck is having made visits to Georgia and Ohio State in the spring – and the level of interest the Buckeyes and Bulldogs have kept with him since. Even though he’s careful not to put either out in front of the rest of the pack, he had high marks when it came to his experience visiting each.

“Both places feel like home,” he said. “All of the places that I’ve visited, those places feel like home, so it’s just a matter of coming back, talking to my family about it and visiting other places to compare them to.”

IN HIS WORDS

On his experience visiting Georgia and Ohio State

“I saw a lot,” he said. “What I’m looking forward to next is getting a better chance to hang out with the players more, seeing how they like it, how they respond to doing what the coaches tell them to do and all that stuff.”

On Georgia

“I visited Georgia twice, once during the season and then again this spring, so I was able to see a lot of stuff through that,” he said. “The atmosphere was loud, it was crazy. That stadium was loud for the spring game.”

On what Ohio State players/commits from Texas talk to him about

“They’re excited about it,” he said. “They tell me all the time how good a school it is, why they picked it and hearing that’s helpful because you want to hear that from everyone else’s perspective, not just the coaches.”
