Virginias Top DE Narrows Focus

Hampton (Va.) Bethel defensive end Chris Ellis is the best defensive end in the state of Virginia this year. But will he stay in state?
"I'd really like to stay close to home," said the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder. "That's important to me. I don't want to go across the country or even a few states away. That's why I'm focusing on teams close enough to home."

That's why Ellis, who has more than 15 offers, is concentrating on four teams more than the others.
"I like Virginia Tech the best," he said. "That defense looks really strong and they let their lineman run and make plays. After them I like Virginia, Maryland and Tennessee. NC State is in there as well, but right now I feel most comfortable with the Hokies."
Ellis plans on setting up his official visits soon.
"I might take a trip to Tennessee when they play Miami in November (Nov. 8 recruiting weekend) and I'd like to see the Tech-Virginia game in Blacksburg," he said. "I don't have my official dates set yet, but I'll do that soon."
Ellis plans on taking in a Virginia game unofficially sometime soon and will take at least three officials before choosing.
"The guys I know at Tech want me to commit now," he laughed. "But I need to look around first and make sure."
