Chase Anastacio has seen his
menu of scholarship offers swell in recent weeks.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety now has nine offers
on his plate, including: Virginia, Maryland, Duke, Virginia Tech, South
Carolina, Notre Dame, Stanford, Syracuse and Penn State.
"I'm getting regular weekly calls from all of them,"
he said. "I think Virginia has been the most active to this point, and
they're definitely one of my top choices. I like the coaches a lot, and I've
visited the school a few times. It's really nice."
Anastacio, an all-state selection and a member of the Rivals.com
Virginia Top 50 team, rounds out
his top three with Notre Dame and Stanford.
"The first thing I look at with all these schools is
academics," said Anastacio, who sports a 3.5 GPA and has scored an 1,100 on
the SAT. "Obviously, those two (Notre Dame and Stanford) speak for
themselves. I really like the coaches there, too. Coach (Tyrone) Willingham
is just awesome, and Stanford's defensive coordinator (Mark Banker) came to
the school to visit me. I was really impressed by that."
He'll have an official visit to both Notre Dame and
Stanford in December, but hasn't set the weekends yet. "I'm also going up to
one of Notre Dame's games for an unofficial sometime soon."
He's attended three Virginia games this season --
Colorado State, South Carolina and Arkon.
Although he's got three clear favorites, Anastacio
said he's not closing the door to other teams.
"I won't rule out anyone for those other two
official visits," he said. "I'll probably make all of them."
Anastacio missed the first two games of his senior
season due to an ankle injury, but has bounced back strong the last two
weeks. He's rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns in helping push
Robinson High School to 4-0.
