Virginia, Mississippi State pushing for Tennessee DE Derrell Bailey
Hailing from a town with less than 2,000 people in East Tennessee, Class of 2020 defensive end Derrell Bailey had to wait a little longer than most prospects to be discovered by college coaches. But now that he's been found, Greenback, Tenn. is suddenly a very popular stop for coaches on the recruiting trail. Over the past few months, Bailey has added offers from several Power Five programs, including schools in the ACC, PAC-12 and SEC. Rivals.com recently caught up with Bailey to talk about some of the schools on his list.
IN HIS WORDS
On his recruitment: "I started getting a few offers and then it sort of took off from there. I've been hearing from all sorts of schools and coaches from all around the country."
On which visits he's taken: "I went to Kentucky, Tennessee, Liberty and Georgia Tech and I'm planning on going to Oregon and Virginia in June."
On which programs are showing the most attention: "Right now Virginia and Mississippi State are two of the schools that are recruiting me hard."
Virginia: "They are showing me a lot of love right now. I haven’t been there for a visit yet but that’s coming up. Watching their basketball team win the championship and seeing their fans and the way campus was, it looked lit. I would like to be there to experience something like that."
Mississippi State: "They have six defensive linemen graduating and they told me I have a chance to come in and start there so that would be a big opportunity. They just produced a couple of guys who went high in the draft so that shows how well they can develop guys.”
