Virginia lands Ohio OL Chris Glaser

Solon, Ohio offensive guard Chris Glaser made an early spring commitment to the Miami Redhawks. Just 12 days later the Spring Evaluation Period kicked off and, despite the commitment, Glaser started to see his stock rise, particularly with Power Five programs. On Friday, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman made a decision to accept one of those Power Five offers.

WHAT HAPPENED

Glaser held eight offers before he committed to Miami, but Virginia’s interest picked up during the spring before really getting hot this summer. This week Glaser made a return trip to Charlottesville. He saw a practice, hung out with the current players on the team and said he was impressed with their camaraderie and family atmosphere. With offer in-hand, Glaser notified the coaches of his commitment to the Cavaliers before he left campus.

IN HIS WORDS

“Virginia was without a doubt the fit. I have a strong connection with the coaches because of our Polynesian background. I strongly believe that coach (Bronco) Mendenhall will get the job done. His past success in my eyes makes it hard to pass up. I am extremely grateful that I have been given a chance to play at UVa and I can’t wait!”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Even before Mendenhall took over in Charlottesville the Cavaliers were making strong inroads in the state of Ohio. The new coaching staff has taken than up a notch and in Glaser have their first addition from that state in the 2017 class. Glaser played very lean during his junior year and his height will likely force a move to the interior offensive line in college after he played tackle last fall, but he is very athletic for the position and could also project to the defensive line in college.
