Virginia ATH makes it official

The Demon Deacons are scouring the mid-Atlantic for talent. Earlier today Wake Forest scooped up commitment No. 6, the third from across the border in Virginia. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder talked to Rivals.com about his pledge.
"I committed to Wake Forest about six today," Tazewell, Va. athlete Matt Muncy said. "I talked to Coach Russ. He recruits my area and is my position coach. We have a good relationship and talk almost every day, about four times a week."

What was Russ's reaction to the news?
"We have been talking a lot about that recently," he said. "He has offered four guys for the position including Tucker Windle who just committed to UVA. He talked to me and said he really needs me up there and was looking forward to me committing. That way he would be able to sleep at night since he'll know he'll have that position finished.
"Every time I visited Wake I really liked them. I've been down four times and sat in the coaches office, met everybody and I really like them. I've had the offer for awhile and every other visit I've taken I've thought to myself, I like Wake better. After talking to Coach Russ last night, he told me he'd like to have me on board. I talked it over with my mom and thought it was the best fit for me. It's only two hours away and they have a perfect type of offense. I thought I mine as well commit. Then I don't have to worry Coach Russ about offering other guys."
Muncy detailed a bit more about what made him select the Deacons.
"I really like the coaching staff and I can play for them for the next four years," he said. "I really like Coach Russ too. The biggest thing for me was the family atmosphere. They make you feel wanted.
"Plus, I was the first guy they offered at the position. That showed me how much they wanted me. I really like the location in Winston-Salem, it's a perfect size city. It also close enough, but far enough so my family can watch me play."
Muncy may very well redshirt as a freshman, but could see a lot of time by his redshirt freshman year.
"They are creating a new position where I'll play H-back and split out wide," he said. "This is the first year they'll be running it and I'm the first guy they are recruiting for it. They plan to work some other guys into the system who will be seniors my first year. That means after a redshirt year I'll compete for playing time."
