Vinyard has Pac-12 favorite

One of the biggest surprises this summer was the performance Mason Vinyard turned in at the USC Rising Stars Camp.
The La Mesa (Calif.) Helix tight end absolutely dominated and now he has the attention of the Trojans' coaching staff although they have not offered yet.

"I wasn't surprised," Vinyard said. "I went into the camp thinking that I was going to be better than everyone and work harder and with my work ethic that's what happened.
"Their tight ends coach and their wide receivers coach said they're going to be at my first game and if I do well I could get an offer."
So far, Washington State, San Diego State and San Jose State have offered the 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect. He said if USC comes through then that could be a game-changer.
"It would be huge," Vinyard said. "It's a big school and it would be really nice to get away from home a little bit for college but not be too far."
As for now, the La Mesa Helix star said Washington State looks the best in his recruitment. He worked out at a camp recently with the Cougars and said even though they like him more on defense it is an interesting proposition to consider.
"Right now with the three that I have I'm really looking at Wazzu," Vinyard said.
"They play a 3-4 defense and they offered me as a fourth outside linebacker. At Helix I play a standup d-end position. They have two seniors there now and I could go and start as a freshman."
Oregon, Georgia and Oregon State are also showing interest at this point.
