Versatile Louisiana ATH is one to watch

D.J. Lewis isn't a household name on the national recruiting landscape or even within his own state of Louisiana. The Haynesville, La. athlete hasn't had the exposure of some of the bigger name players in the state but that isn't to say that he doesn't have the same kind of ability.
Haynesville High School is a 1A program with just over 200 students enrolled. Within that small pond though, Lewis has been a whale of a player, doing just about everything for his team. As a junior, Lewis rushed for over 600 yards and 10 touchdowns, had over 200 yards receiving for five more touchdowns, had over 50 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense and even added five more touchdowns on punt and kickoff returns.

It is safe to call Lewis an athlete.
"I had a lot of receiving yards, a lot of rushing yards and I was just setting records everywhere," Lewis said. "I'm an athlete. I play running back and receiver. I play cornerback on defense and I play kickoff return and punt return. I think I fit best at running back but my cornerback abilities are very good.
"I love my team. I'd do anything for my team. It just feels good to get out there and do all those different things."
Lewis is not simply a small school wonder. Because of his limited exposure during his high school season, Lewis has been active on camp circuits and against the best in the country, he has showed that he belongs. Recently, Lewis put up some of the best testing numbers at the U.S. Army All-American Combine. Following that event he watched his good friend Chris Davenport and the other All-Americans compete in the Bowl game.
"It was just exciting to be in there and just watch the players play," he said. "I'd love to play in a game like that."
Lewis is doing everything he can to make that possibility a reality. He is attending every camp he can find and competing wherever he is able to. He is already receiving recruiting attention from a few elite programs.
"I get a lot of interest but they said we couldn't talk until April 15 so I think I'll hear more around then," he said. "I'm hearing the most from LSU and Florida State."
In fact, Lewis was in Baton Rouge last week for a junior day.
"It was lovely," he said. "I liked the program. I liked the academics. I liked everything, the facilities were nice."
Due to his versatility, it's no surprise that Lewis spoke to multiple position coaches on the visit.
"I got to talk to Coach Porter the running backs coach and Coach McCarthy the WR coach and Les Miles. They sound like good coaches."
Lewis could play anywhere on the field and he will likely be playing all over the region in upcoming camps as he looks to continue to get his name out. Just like on Friday nights, he likely won't be tough to find.
